WelcomeGolden Oaks Farm was established in 1948 by the Crown Family of Chicago. The farm is located in the north west suburbs of Chicago, about 45 minutes from O'Hare Airport and 2 hours from Madison, WI. Each year we host not only numerous dairy enthusiasts, but also several hundred local students who are eager to learn about the dairy industry. |

Breeding ProgramThe focus at Golden Oaks Farm is to breed and develop superior Black and White and Red and White Holstein genetics. We accomplish this through careful selection of the top genetics in our herd, which is then supplemented with top-notch genetics from around the world. We utilize an extensive embryo transfer program to help accomplish these goals, which is performed by Sunshine Genetics of Whitewater, WI. The result of our program is numerous high-value genetic females, bulls, and embryos sold world wide each year. |

The HerdOur herd consists of roughly 700 milking females and 650 young stock, with about 900 of these animals registered. Our goal is to produce 18,200,000 pounds of milk per year with solid components. Each year we classify 3 or four times, and currently we have 33 EX and 142 VG cows. Most of our 1,400 crop acres are planted and harvested by custom harvesters. Alfalfa haylage, dry hay, corn silage, high moisture corn, and oatlage are grown on the farm to feed the cows, and corn gluten feed, and a protein-mineral mix are purchased to fill out the ration. |

CompostingIn 2004, a composting business was established at the farm, Midwest Organics Recycling (MOR). MOR produces Organimix® brand compost that is made from organic materials including leaves, grass, woodchips and cow manure. Visit its website at www.compostmatters.com for more information. |
